Dash Take Down Hillcats, 5-4

The Dash grabbed a win, 5-4, at Ed Smith Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Lynchburg pitcher Edwin Lucio. Lucio went 6.2 innings and allowed no runs. Winston-Salem reliever Jason Messina snagged the win, upping his record to 1-0. Bobby Reece shouldered the loss. The win for the Dash lifted their record to 20-20.
Winston-Salem used the timely hitting of Elias Vargas to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Dash on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
After the game, Winston-Salem manager Sam Simmons applauded the team's effort. "We put some good AB's together," he said.
