Wilmington Beats Carolina as Checa Throws 8-0 Shutout
The Carolina Mudcats manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Wilmington Blue Rocks. The Mudcats were overpowered by Wilmington starter Francisco Checa, who hurled his club to victory, 8-0.

"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Jason Hawkins said.

Over 9 innings, Checa blanked Carolina on 6 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Checa said.

"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

This year, Checa has posted a 6-3 mark in 11 starts and has a 1.41 ERA.
