Potomac Nationals starter Francisco Valdez turned in a sterling performance against the Salem Red Sox, leading his team to a slim, 3-2 win. The winner was Valdez. He threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Armando Lopez. Potomac is third in the Northern Division with a record of 25-32.

The Nationals got a big hit from second baseman Brett Baughman. In the bottom of the sixth, Baughman smacked a 2-run double off Salem pitcher Armando Lopez. It was his 5th double of the season. Suddenly, the Nationals were ahead, 3-2.

"We squandered some opportunities," said Salem manager Arturo Cobian.
