Hillcats Win with Late Heroics
|
The Lynchburg Hillcats picked up a win at Ed Smith Stadium, downing the Winston-Salem Dash, 3-2, in 10 innings. On the mound for Lynchburg was right-hander Alexis Espinoza, who played a pivotal role in the win. Luis Diaz, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on no hits in 1.2 innings. Lynchburg is now 36-23, Winston-Salem 28-31.
Up to bat in the bottom of the tenth, 26-year old left fielder Brent Phelps had a chance to be the hero. Winston-Salem pitcher Antonio Cruz wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Phelps hit a sacrifice fly. The Hillcats had themselves a thrilling win.
"It's great when the crowd gets into it," Phelps said.
