Myrtle Beach Wins, 3-1
|
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans locked up a win at Grainger Stadium, knocking off the Carolina Mudcats, 3-1. On the mound for Myrtle Beach was right-hander Eric Lombardo. He played a major role in the triumph. The winner was Lombardo. He threw 7.0 innings allowing 1 run. The loser was Antonio Melgar. Rob Jimenez closed the game out for Myrtle Beach, earning his 1st save.
Myrtle Beach used a timely hit from Tony Sauceda to get the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Pelicans ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
Afterward, Pelicans manager David Larson was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
The Pelicans win now puts them at 38-30.
