Starting pitcher Brad Smithwick was a major factor in the 3-0 Wilmington Blue Rocks triumph over the Carolina Mudcats. Josh Sheeley earned save number 14 this season. The victory gives the Blue Rocks a record of 39-32.

Gerardo Medina, the 24-year old center fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Medina contributed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put Wilmington up, 1-0.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Wilmington skipper Bobby Clontz.
