Pelicans Rack Up 2-1 Win Versus Frederick
|
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, behind a great outing from Travis Netsch, who is tied for 2nd in the CAR in strikeouts with 95, defeated the Frederick Keys, 2-1, at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. Myrtle Beach reliever Colt Byler snagged the win, upping his record to 5-1. Javier Hernandez shouldered the loss. Sergio Gaona nailed down his 7th save.
Had Brendan Quillen not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Quillen hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Pelicans.
"I like our mental toughness," said Myrtle Beach manager David Larson.
Myrtle Beach raised its record to 50-21 with the win.
