The first-place Salem Red Sox took on the Carolina Mudcats in front of a spirited crowd.
The 3-hit performance of Jose Vera, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2112 draft, helped the Salem Red Sox beat the Carolina Mudcats, 9-1. Joe Lauver, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-3. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1 innings.
Early in the game, catcher Amaro Alfarela had a 3-run home run for Salem. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Red Sox on top, 3-0.
In postgame comments to the Salem Times, Alfarela said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
With the win, Salem upped its record to 44-32.
