In Extras, Red Sox Beat Hillcats, 2-1
|
The Lynchburg Hillcats wasted an inspired, 7-inning effort from starter Roberto Fernandez, falling, 2-1, to the Salem Red Sox in 10 innings at Ed Smith Stadium. Reynaldo Munoz collected save number 2. With the victory, the Red Sox record stands at 30-49.
Jose Roman, who is tied for 4th in the CAR with a .280 batting average, had a direct impact on the outcome. Roman contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the tenth inning to put Salem up, 2-1.
During his postgame press conference, Red Sox manager Arturo Cobian told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
