Red Sox Stick Pelicans with 3-2 Loss
|
Salem Red Sox starter Carlos Aguilar turned in an exceptional performance against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium, resulting in a Salem win, 3-2. The winner was Aguilar. He threw 5.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Matt Rice. Getting the save was Elliott Wilgus, his 13th.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Red Sox had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when first baseman Nick Sheets hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Matt Rice and made the score 3-2, Red Sox. Sheets went 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
In postgame remarks, Sheets hailed his team's "single-minded determination."
Salem is now 38-44. Myrtle Beach is 32-50.
