Shepherd Goes Off, But Hillcats Win
The Lynchburg Hillcats overcame a fine performance by Wilmington first baseman Gabe Shepherd to defeat the Blue Rocks, 6-5, at Ed Smith Stadium. Shepherd hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Ben Sweet got credit for the win, improving to 4-3. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. The Hillcats are now 56-28, while the Blue Rocks fall to 49-35.

Chris Shuford went 1 for 4 with a triple. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Lynchburg. In a tie game with one out in the bottom of the eighth, Shuford came through with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It put the Hillcats in front, 6-5.

"There are times you get yourself out and there are times you come through," Shuford said. "That's how it goes."
