The Carolina Mudcats defeated the Frederick Keys, 3-0, in Carolina League action at Harry Grove Stadium. Carolina pitcher Doug Mertz had a standout performance. In 6.2 innings, Mertz surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 3. He allowed no runs. The win makes Carolina 42-45.

Matt Acord had a big 2-run home run for the Mudcats in the top of the third inning. With Carolina leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a changeup from Rafael de Jesus, who is tied for 8th in the CAR with a 2.49 ERA, and swatted a home run to right. It was his 3rd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mudcats ahead, 3-0.

"That's a solid team effort right there," said Acord. "Everyone's feeling positive after that win."
