Colon, Fisher Cats Serve Up 7-1 Win
|
Riding the 2-hit performance of the 23-year old first baseman Elias Colon, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats stopped the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 7-1. John Speer picked up the win, lifting his record to 1-0 on the season. He struck out 4 and walked 2 in 7.2 innings, while yielding 1 run. The win lifts New Hampshire to a record of 2-0.
New Hampshire took a 3-0 lead on Colon's 1st home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which he hit off Juan Talamantes in the top of the seventh, propelled New Hampshire to the win.
Colon said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
