Red Sox 4-3 Winners Versus Frederick
|
The Salem Red Sox knocked off the Frederick Keys, 4-3, in Carolina League action at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Salem pitcher and Caracas, Venezuela, native Angel Villegas had an outstanding performance. The winning pitcher was Villegas, now 1-7. He tossed 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 6. Carlitos Anoio closed out the game, earning his 4th save.
The Keys had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Red Sox going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old shortstop Bobby Gracia came to the plate. Gracia hit a 2-run home run on a 1-1 fastball from Frederick hurler Carlos Lucero. It was Gracia's 7th home run of the year.
"Angel was in attack mode," said Salem manager Arturo Cobian.
Salem, now 33-56, holds down last place in the Southern Division.
