Lynchburg designated hitter Alex Melendez had a good game, even if his team did not. The Hillcats dropped a 5-4 decision to Carolina at Grainger Stadium. Melendez was 2-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Ernesto Fedele picked up the save for Carolina, his 4th of the year. At 50-41, the Mudcats claim first place in the Southern Division.

The Mudcats got a big at-bat from shortstop Ben McGee. For the game, McGee was 2-3 with 2 doubles, while adding 3 RBI. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 2nd double of the season gave Carolina a 5-4 lead.

"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," McGee told the Carolina Today. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
