The Myrtle Beach Pelicans could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Joe Foster into a win. Instead, the Carolina Mudcats prevailed, 4-2. Foster threw 9.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Alex Buitrago snagged the win in relief. He goes to 6-1 on the season. Joe Foster suffered the loss. Antonio Lujan closed it out for Carolina, earning his 14th save.
Carolina used a timely hit from Greg Stevens to get the win. The left fielder stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mudcats ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a difference-maker.
"I thought we played some darn good baseball," said Mudcats manager Jason Hawkins.
With the win, Carolina has a record of 42-53. Myrtle Beach falls to 65-30.
