The Wilmington Blue Rocks got a strong performance from pitcher Bill Fike, who stymied the Winston-Salem offense en route to a win, 4-2, at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium. Andrew Gibbs earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 3.1 innings. He upped his record to 12-6. Wilmington, at 76-54, holds down second place in the Northern Division.
Wilmington used the timely hitting of D.J. Gibson to capture the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Blue Rocks on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but he made it count.
In postgame comments, Gibson said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
