Bernal Stars for Nationals in 15-4 Win
|
With third baseman Willie Bernal leading the charge, the Potomac Nationals defeated the Salem Red Sox, 15-4, at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Bernal went 4-5 with 4 singles and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. The winner was Antonio Capetillo, who threw 93 pitches over 5.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 5 hits. The third-place Nationals now have a win-loss record of 46-56.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Juan Flores? The Potomac second baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Nationals on top, 3-0. For the game, Flores had 1 double and 2 singles in 6 at-bats.
"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said Potomac manager Austin Czerwiec.
