Salem Triumphs with Late Surge
Winston-Salem wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Tony Vazquez, falling to the Salem Red Sox, 5-2. Vazquez threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Salem reliever Eli Uribe picked up the win to move to 3-8. Antonio Cruz suffered the loss. Israel Ledezma finished the game for Salem and earned his 7th save.

Salem used a timely hit from Nick Pearson to get the win. The center fielder stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 5-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"We did a lot of really good things and it was a good win," said Red Sox manager Tommy Gallant.

Salem sits in third place in the Southern Division at 41-62.
