Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the Salem Red Sox and Lynchburg Hillcats.
Lynchburg picked up a win at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium, bumping off the Salem Red Sox, 5-3. Pitcher Billy de Soto was a major reason the Hillcats emerged victorious. de Soto got the win, improving to 2-1. He gave up 6 hits and walked 6 over 8 innings. He allowed 2 runs.
Akke de Jong provided a timely hit. The Lynchburg catcher delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the seventh inning to put the Hillcats on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.
"We ground out the win," said de Soto. "That's all that matters."
Lynchburg is now 50-53.
