Red Sox Better Mudcats, 3-2
|
Fans saw a dandy of a game between the Salem Red Sox and Carolina Mudcats.
The Salem Red Sox earned a win at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium, stopping the Carolina Mudcats, 3-2. Starting pitcher Jeremy Gruber played a big role in his team's success. Salem reliever Pedro Jimenez snagged the win, upping his record to 5-4. Nathan Shaw shouldered the loss.
Steve Kolinski went 2-3 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Salem. The 27-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Nathan Shaw. It was his 11th walk of the season.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Carolina manager Danny White. "But we decided not to take it."
Salem is third in the Southern Division with a record of 42-64.
