Hillcats Handled by Myrtle Beach, 5-4

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans did just enough to sneak past the Lynchburg Hillcats, 5-4, at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. Myrtle Beach pitcher Jeremy Hovis, in particular, had a standout performance. In 6.1 innings, Hovis surrendered 10 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 0. He allowed 4 runs. The Pelicans saw their record improve to 75-36.
The Hillcats had been locked in a 4-4 tie with the Pelicans going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old center fielder Nate Barr came to the plate. Barr hit a run-scoring double on a 1-0 fastball from Lynchburg hurler Hugo Quevedo. It was Barr's 2nd double of the year.
"I like to lead by example," said Hovis. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
