Myrtle Beach pitcher Travis Netsch had a large part in his team beating the Winston-Salem Dash, 8-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The winner was Netsch. He threw 5.2 innings of 2-hit ball. The loser was Melvin Gonzalez. The Pelicans saw their record improve to 79-36.

The Dash had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Pelicans going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old third baseman Cesar Virgen came to the plate. Virgen hit a run-scoring double on a 1-1 fastball from Winston-Salem hurler Melvin Gonzalez. It was Virgen's 24th double of the year.

"Travis is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Myrtle Beach manager David Larson.
