Carolina Rallies for 3-1 Victory
|
The Carolina Mudcats took Salem pitcher Manny Amaya's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. The final score had Carolina getting past the Red Sox, 3-1. Amaya went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 6. The Mudcats improved to 54-61.
Carolina used the timely hitting of Tyler Greer to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Mudcats on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
During his postgame press conference, Mudcats manager Jason Hawkins told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
