Mudcats Lose as Red Sox Stage Late Rally
Carolina got a valiant performance from pitcher Willie Cardona, but it wasn't enough to beat the Salem Red Sox. Salem won the game, 6-3. Cardona threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. Salem pitcher Eric Gore got the win. He's now 5-0. Antonio Lujan was tagged with the loss. Salem is now 47-70, while Carolina is 48-69.

Salem used the timely hitting of Pat Plante to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Said Carolina manager Jason Hawkins: "They just got the better of us."
