|
The Winston-Salem Dash got a stellar effort from pitcher Diego Puete, helping Winston-Salem score a win over the visiting Carolina Mudcats, 3-1. The winner was Puete. He threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball. The loser was David Lopez. Earning his 23rd save of the year was Dave Perez.
Had Bill Rivera not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Rivera hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Dash.
"Diego never lets off the gas," said Winston-Salem manager Sam Simmons. "Good, bad, or ugly, he never gives in."
Winston-Salem, at 63-58, holds down third place in the Southern Division.
