The rain could not dampen the enthusiasm of Salem fans at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Salem pitcher Ricardo Gutierrez did his part in helping his team defeat the Winston-Salem Dash, 7-0. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. Gutierrez, now 8-12, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing no runs.

Edward Harris had a big solo home run for the Red Sox in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Salem leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Francisco Justo, who is tied for 4th in the CAR in strikeouts with 132, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Red Sox on top, 2-0.

"You can't take yourself too seriously," Harris told the Salem Times. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."

Salem is now 50-74, Winston-Salem 75-49.
