Starting pitcher Arturo Valverde fulfilled his part of the bargain, helping the Wilmington Blue Rocks stymie the Lynchburg Hillcats, 5-2. The winner was Wilmington reliever Stephen Rozier, now 9-9. The loser was Mark Hamm. The loss makes Lynchburg 71-56.

Perry O'Brien hit a 2-run home run off Donovan Harding in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Blue Rocks ahead, 4-2. In addition to the homer, O'Brien had 1 double, while going 2 for 3.

"It all comes down to competing and our guys love to compete," said Blue Rocks manager Bobby Clontz.
