Blue Rocks Pull Off Thrilling 5-3 Win in Extras
|
The Wilmington Blue Rocks took Lynchburg pitcher Billie Barrett's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Ed Smith Stadium. The final score had Wilmington getting past the Hillcats, 5-3. Barrett went 7.1 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 12. Josh Sheeley snagged the win in relief. In 2 innings, the right-hander allowed no runs on no hits. He's now 2-0 on the season. After today's action, Wilmington sits at 75-54; Lynchburg slips to 101-29.
Wilmington used the timely hitting of Francisco Flores to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Blue Rocks on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Good win for us, tough loss for them," said Flores.
