The Potomac Nationals picked up a win at G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium, topping the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 7-3. On the mound for Potomac was right-hander Mike Tauber. He played a principal role in the triumph. The save went to Jose Romo, his 8th this season. Their 45-87 record puts the Nationals last in the Northern Division.
Ricardo Mendoza had a big 2-run home run for the Nationals in the bottom of the second inning. With Potomac leading 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a splitter from Arturo Valverde, who is tied for 10th in the CAR in strikeouts with 121, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Nationals on top, 4-1.
"Mike went out and got the job done," said Nationals manager Justin Bland.
