Mudcats Slip Past Wilmington, 3-2

The Carolina Mudcats had to overcome a fine performance from Wilmington pitcher Matt Heidt to grab a 3-2 win at Grainger Stadium. Heidt allowed 1 run over 5.2 innings. Carolina reliever Barry Campbell was the winner. His record is now 2-3. Manny Rodriguez took the loss. Keith Santa Ana recorded his 19th save for Carolina.
Had it not been for Jim Young, the results might have been different. In the bottom of the eighth inning, when the Mudcats were trailing 2-1, Young hit a 2-run single for Carolina, giving his team the lead.
"Credit where credit is due," said Young, "this was a team win."
The third-place Mudcats raised their record to 46-88.
