The Wilmington Blue Rocks and Carolina Mudcats played an exciting game.

Wilmington starter Austin McElyea pitched well against the Carolina Mudcats at Grainger Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-2. Wilmington reliever Austin McElyea got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Wibowo Kartodirdjo was tagged with the loss. Andrew Gibbs got the save, the 2nd for him this season.

David Mendez, the 23-year old shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Mendez contributed a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put Wilmington up, 4-2.

"Coulda, shoulda, woulda," said Carolina manager Chris Scarlett. "We had our chances and didn't cash in."

Wilmington, at 81-55, sits in second place in the Northern Division.
