The Salem Red Sox beat the Carolina Mudcats, 7-6, at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Salem designated hitter Steve Degen banged out 2 singles and 1 double, while driving in 2 runs. The third-place Red Sox have a record of 56-81.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Salem pinch hitter Jon Alvarado, facing Ernesto Fedele, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Red Sox the 7-6 win.

"A great game, a great day," said Degen about the win. "I can't complain."
