Mudcats Get Past Wilmington, 3-2
|
The Mudcats grabbed a win, 3-2, at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Wilmington pitcher Frank Ritter. Ritter went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. Matt Morales earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record is now 5-6. With the win, Carolina has a record of 53-87. Wilmington falls to 60-80.
Carolina used the timely hitting of Josh Valentine to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mudcats on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Let's just say I'm happy we won," said Valentine. "There are a lot of people in the clubhouse who like to whine too much when we lose."
