The Brevard County Manatees satisfied the home crowd at Space Coast Stadium, treating them to a season-opening win, 2-1, over the Clearwater Threshers. Starting Pitcher Jason Minton was the standout performer for Brevard County. Minton got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 4 hits and walked 2 over 5.2 innings. Minton allowed 1 run. Mike Baxter was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Jose Tarango had a big 2-run home run for the Manatees in the bottom of the first inning. With Brevard County trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Jayden Stephens and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Manatees ahead, 2-1.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Brevard County manager David Meade.
