Starting pitcher Mike Rice pitched well enough to help the Tampa Yankees beat the St. Lucie Mets, 5-4. The winning pitcher was Rice, now 1-1. He tossed 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 9. The win lifts Tampa to a record of 2-4.
Nick Rich had a big 3-run home run for the Yankees in the bottom of the third inning. With Tampa leading 2-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Chris Tresidder and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Yankees on top, 5-0.
"Mike can bring it," said Tampa manager Ernesto Blanco.
