The Tampa Yankees picked up a win at George M. Steinbrenner Field, knocking off the Clearwater Threshers, 3-2. Starting pitcher Ignacio Garza played a key role in the triumph. Garza yielded 2 runs over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 9. His record improves to 2-1. Dallas Cohen earned the save, his 3rd, for the Yankees.

Joe Cunningham had a big run-scoring double for the Yankees in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Tampa leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Jinrou Higashi and swatted a double to right. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Yankees ahead, 3-0.

"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Tampa skipper Mitch Renfer. "I can't complain."

Clearwater is 10-12 after the loss.
