Yankees Win Close Shave, 1-0
|
There was no shortage of dramatics at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
In a low-scoring tilt between the Tampa Yankees and the Daytona Tortugas, 20-year old right-handed pitcher Jose Alfonso was the difference-maker. The Tampa right-hander spearheaded the 1-0 win in 11 innings. Tampa reliever Quincy Cunningham was the winner. His record is now 1-3. Manny Camacho took the loss.
The Yankees got a clutch hit from right fielder Ray Roach. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Yankees.
"We fed off the energy of the crowd at the end," Roach said.
The last-place Yankees hiked their record to 23-36.
