The St. Lucie Mets got a sterling performance from pitcher Cory Tillotson, but the Tampa Yankees still prevailed, 1-0. Tillotson threw 9.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Bob Searle, the winning pitcher, is now 3-7. He went 5.2 innings, allowing no runs on 6 hits, while fanning 6 and walking 1. Jeff Tinch picked up his 7th save of the season.
Andres Torres helped his team jump on top from the get-go. His first time up in the top of the first, he cranked a run-scoring single to give Tampa a 1-0 lead.
"Our pitching was the difference tonight," Torres said.
By defeating St. Lucie, the 5th-place Yankees improved to 30-39.
