Hammerheads Lose at Home, 3-1
|
The Tampa Yankees got a good effort from starter Jerry Custello in defeating the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Stadium. The final score was 3-1. Custello, the winner, moves to 2-5. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 4 walks. Picking up his 2nd save was 20-year old right-handed pitcher Rich Mondragon.
Tampa took a 2-0 lead on Austin Welder's 2nd triple of the season. The run-scoring triple, which Welder hit in the top of the eighth, left Jupiter pitcher Frank Lopez visibly frustrated.
"Jerry is one tough hombre," said Tampa manager Mitch Renfer.
After today's action, Tampa sits at 27-51; Jupiter slips to 20-59.
