Stone Crabs Rally Late to Clip Clearwater
|
The Charlotte Stone Crabs faced a tenacious opponent in Clearwater pitcher Larry Northcutt, but still scratched out a win at Bright House Field by a final score of 3-2 in 10 innings. Northcutt went 7.1 innings and allowed no runs. Kevin Albert, now 3-6, was credited with the win in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 3 and walking 0. Ricardo Abreo earned save number 3 this season.
Charlotte used the timely hitting of Tyler Gutierrez to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Stone Crabs on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Afterward, Stone Crabs manager Victor Beltran was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
Charlotte is now 44-38.
