Tampa first baseman Joel Centeno had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Centeno was 1 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2, even as Brevard County beat the Yankees, 7-5. Joe Yount picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-0. He struck out 4 in 6 innings. Dave Buskey earned the save, his 17th, for the Manatees.
In the bottom of the fifth, Brevard County shortstop Greg Miles had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and one out, Miles stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 6-5, Brevard County. For the game, he was 2-4 with a double.
"I felt good up there," said Miles. "I saw the ball well."
The win gives Brevard County a season record of 48-36.
