Threshers Win at Home, 3-2
|
The Clearwater Threshers weathered a fine game by Tampa designated hitter Latroy Ehardt to upend the Yankees, 3-2, at Bright House Field. Ehardt went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Clearwater reliever Miguel Estevez, now 3-1. The loser was Victor Varela. Clearwater is now 50-38.
Had Bill Foley not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Foley hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Threshers.
Said Clearwater manager Luis Alvarez: "They come in every day and work hard. It's nice to see that work pay off."
