Tortugas Suffer 2-0 Setback
|
George M. Steinbrenner Field hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
The Tampa Yankees topped the Daytona Tortugas, 2-0, in Florida State League action at George M. Steinbrenner Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Tampa pitcher Ryan Serl. In 7.1 innings, Serl surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. The save went to Jesus Ferrer, number 2 for him.
The Yankees got an important contribution from second baseman Nelson Rodriguez, who in the bottom of the sixth punched a first pitch fastball into left-center for a run-scoring double. It was his 4th double of the season and put the Yankees ahead, 1-0.
"We take it day by day here," said Rodriguez, "and today was a good one for us."
The win gives the Yankees a record of 32-66.
