The St. Lucie Mets defeated the Clearwater Threshers, 6-4, at Bright House Field. Leading the charge for St. Lucie was designated hitter Steve Freeman. He was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs. St. Lucie reliever Anthony Jones picked up the win to move to 1-1. Josh Groover suffered the loss. The 5th-place Mets go to 52-53.
The game was all tied up in the top of the ninth, until Freeman delivered big-time for St. Lucie, stroking a dramatic 2-run single off Willie Maciel. The game-changing hit put the Mets on top, 6-4.
After the game, St. Lucie manager Troy Nelson applauded the team's effort. "We put some good AB's together," he said.
