Pepper Silences Palm Beach, 1-0
|
The St. Lucie Mets did little to support starter Ross Pepper against the Palm Beach Cardinals, but it turned out he didn't need the help.
The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Cardinals, striking out 8 and surrendering 5 hits. The performance from Pepper allowed St. Lucie to escape with the 1-0 win, despite an anemic offense.
"Nobody came to me and said, 'Ross, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Pepper told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."
For this year, Pepper has chalked up 8 wins and 5 losses in 17 starts with 131 strikeouts in 118 innings and a 3.36 ERA.
