The Fort Myers Miracle knocked off the Daytona Tortugas, 7-5, in Florida State League action at Hammond Stadium. Fort Myers pitcher and Santa Clarita, California, native Joe Gowins had an outstanding performance. The Miracle saw their win-loss record go to 66-42. At the same time, the Tortugas fell to 46-62.

Malik Gambrell had a big 2-run double for the Miracle in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Fort Myers leading 3-2 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Luis Carrasco and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 24th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Miracle ahead, 5-2.

Gowins told the Fort Myers Daily: "I'm the straw that stirs the drink."
