Clearwater Bats Quiet in 7-1 Loss
|
Francisco Valdez pitched a dandy of a game to help the Jupiter Hammerheads beat the Clearwater Threshers, 7-1. Valdez yielded 1 run over 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. His record improves to 3-1. The Hammerheads have a winning streak of 5 games.
Justin Cox had a big 3-run home run for the Hammerheads in the bottom of the first inning. With Jupiter leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from James Costello and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Hammerheads ahead, 5-0.
"This team is real focused right now," said Jupiter manager Mark Williamson.
