St. Lucie laid the wood on Tampa at Tradition Field.

Tampa catcher Steve Jones was sensational. He was 3-4 with 2 home runs and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. St. Lucie beat the Yankees, 16-3. Ross Pepper picked up the win with 9 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 10. On the season, he is now 9-5.

Bob Estes had a big 2-run double for the Mets in the bottom of the third inning. With St. Lucie leading 3-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Dallas Cohen and swatted a double to right. It was his 11th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mets ahead, 5-0.

Tampa manager Mitch Renfer said: "The beauty of this game is games like this only count as one loss."

St. Lucie raised its record to 65-46 with the win.
