Cardinals Capture Close Win
|
The Palm Beach Cardinals used a great performance from Mario Delgado, who is tied for 9th in the FSL in complete games with 3, to beat the Clearwater Threshers, 2-1, at Bright House Field. The winning pitcher was Delgado, now 6-1. He tossed 8.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 4. The first-place Cardinals hiked their record to 71-41.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Enrique Ochoa came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Clearwater pitcher David Adams, he hit a 1-1 curveball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Palm Beach on top, 2-0.
"Every loss hurts," said Clearwater manager Luis Alvarez. "But this was a tough one."
