Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Lakeland Flying Tigers and Daytona Tortugas.

The Lakeland Flying Tigers had to overcome a fine effort from Daytona pitcher Ray Steffek to grab a narrow 3-1 win at Joker Marchant Stadium. Steffek went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. Lakeland reliever Jonathan Williams picked up the win to move to 6-2. Ray Steffek suffered the loss. Joey Amaya picked up the save for Lakeland, his 17th of the year.

The Flying Tigers got a big at-bat from right fielder Mike Giordano. For the game, Giordano was 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk. In the bottom of the third, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 12th home run of the season gave Lakeland a 2-1 lead.

"You win some, you lose some. I don't get too caught up in all that," said Giordano.

The Flying Tigers are now 73-51, while the Tortugas fall to 56-68.
